Project Goal: Design a flag representing Cherry Grove Beach, South Carolina utilizing effective symbolism, simple shapes, and limited colors.

Process: I chose to focus on Cherry Grove Beach as the location for this project as I have grown up going there every summer with my family my entire life. Growing up visiting there, I already possess a lot of knowledge about it, but I started this design process by researching aspects of it such as where its name came from, how long its been a popular tourist destination, etcetera. From there, I came up with symbolic icons and colors to portray the feel and history of Cherry Grove.

Result: The final flag design represents both the history of Cherry Grove as well as its role as a vacation staple for generations of families. The flower, a Black Cherry tree blossom, represents the source of the beach's name. The blue and yellow not only provide a coastal feel to the flag, but also reflect the colors utilized in Cherry Grove's signage. Lastly, the circular shape suggesting a cyclical motion represents the continuous flow of family generations visiting the beach as a yearly tradition.
