Lil’ Guy Experiences Light and Color - Stop Motion
Animation
Tools: Stop Motion Studio, Adobe Premiere Pro
Project Goal: With a partner, develop a stop motion animation with the purpose of exploring concepts of light and color in a fun way.
Process: My partner and I began this process by choosing a storyline and storyboarding our animation. We ultimately landed on using a fictional, silly character as our focal point as it seemed to be a fun and simple way to showcase the effects of colorful light on both a subject and on the shadows it casts. After storyboarding, we modeled our main character out of Play-Doh, built a small setup for the film to take place in, and proceeded to create the stop motion in the software. Lastly, for sound, I recorded myself making noises that both matched the character’s design and what he was feeling throughout the animation and edited it all together in Premiere Pro.
Result: The final animation is a silly, entertaining, and fun visualization of someone, in this case, “Lil’ Guy”, experiencing colorful light for the first time. He finds a button that projects a different color of light on him each time he steps on it and changes the color he is made out of as a result. He progressively gets more and more excited about his discovery throughout the animation, ultimately showing how immersive color and light in design can be if we take the time to explore it.
